Protechnik Laboratories, a division of Armscor, is set to host 22 scientists from 14 different countries as part of the annual Analytical Chemistry Course scheduled to take place from 3 – 14 June 2024 at Techno Park, Centurion. This course is offered under the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPWC).
This course will provide scientists with an opportunity to gain sound knowledge of the principles, procedures and application of gas chromatography techniques for the analysis of chemicals related to the Convention. The focus is on providing hands-on experience to the participants.
“We are excited to use our expertise and experience to strengthen relations with scientists within the African continent. This gathering will enhance the capabilities of the participants in the area of chemical analyses related to the implementation of the Chemical Weapon Convention (CWC),” said Dr Noel Mkaza; Group Executive – Research and Development at Armscor.
Sampling and sample preparation procedures for CWC-related chemicals, laboratory quality management systems, and troubleshooting and maintenance of gas chromatography are some of the topics to be discussed during the 14th annual Analytical Chemistry Course.
Protechnik Laboratories is a strategic facility within the Research and Development Department at Armscor. It is an applied chemistry or biochemistry facility with a primary focus on chemical and biological research. Biomedical studies are also undertaken to focus on characterisation and identification techniques for biological warfare agents.
