The AEROS MH-1 Satellite, as the product of a committed consortium led by Thales Edisoft Portugal and CEiiA, is a pioneering initiative that showcases Portugal's technologically advanced engineering capabilities in the realm of satellite development and operation. This event underscores Portugal's commitment to enhancing global scientific research through its proactive engagement with space technologies, marking the nation's full-fledged re-entry into space exploration after 30 years.
The AEROS MH-1 is equipped with a hyperspectral camera and an RGB camera that captures images of visible light, as well as sensors to collect data communicated by radio through tags that will be placed on animals belonging to the groups of species to be monitored. If the tags make it possible to locate different species in the ocean, the cameras make it possible to collect images and data that make it possible to determine different phenomena that are usually generated by the fauna and flora that live in the oceans.
Communications and collection of data and images will be carried out from the Santa Maria teleport, in the Azores, maintained by Thales Edisoft Portugal.
